Translation of revised WHO international league against rheumatism community oriented program for the control of rheumatic diseases core English questionnaire into Bengali and its cross-cultural adaptation and validation

Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) and the International League Against Rheumatism (ILAR) initiated Community-Oriented Program for Control of Rheumatic Diseases (COPCORD) project in 1981. aim this study was to translate revised WHO-ILAR COPCORD questionnaire into Bengali test if version could be reliably used identifying rheumatic diseases Bangladeshi people.Methods: This an observational conducted rheumatology wing, department medicine, BSMMU from April October, 2011. It implemented two stages: Translation cross-cultural adaptation testing questionnaire. For translation adaptation, recommendation by Beaton’s procedure followed. Respondents were enrolled outpatient departments BSMMU, household members healthy patient’s attendants. Data collected analyzed using SPSS windows v16.Results: Thirty subjects completed preliminary Fifteen males (50%) fifteen females interviewed. Mean age respondents 31.97±10.15 with range 16-55 years. Test-retest reliability tested interviewing 70 subjects. To evaluate agreement between measurement qualitative questions kappa quantitative question spearman’s correlation. Most (88.2%) showed high or good (kappa >0.6) one (5.88%) moderate (0.4-0.6). In case responses re-test found have 50% correlation remainder poor Spearman’s correlation.Conclusions: Pretest has shown clear wording culturally appropriate.
